Vale of Glamorgan Council turn down application to test drill for gas at Llandow Industrial Estate

Members of the Vale Green Party in conjunction with the Vale Says No campaign (thevalesaysno.com) were in attendance at the Vale of Glamorgan Council planning committee meeting this evening as they turned down an application by Coastal Oil and Gas to test drill for gas at Llandow Industrial Estate.

The planning application was heard in Barry and a protest took place outside the Civic Offices beforehand. Both BBC Wales News and ITV Wales News ran stories regarding the protest showing the continued interest in the issue: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-15371033

Unfortunately, it is more than likely that Coastal Oil and Gas will appeal against the decision to the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG). Given the heightened interest in the application, it is believed at this time that it will go to a public enquiry where an independent will be appointed by WAG.

Although the refusal of the planning application at Llandow was of significant importance, we know all too well that a moratorium called by the UK government to look into safety concerns regarding hydraulic fracturing is the only true measure of our campaign being successful.Members of the Vale Green Party in conjunction with the Vale Says No campaign (thevalesaysno.com) were in attendance at the Vale of Glamorgan Council planning committee meeting this evening as they turned down an application by Coastal Oil and Gas to test drill for gas at Llandow Industrial Estate.

Vale Green Party pleased at Scrutiny Meeting decision to vote in favour of calling a moratorium

The Vale Green Party are pleased with a decision by the VOG Council Scrutiny committee to vote in favour of requesting a moratorium on shale gas drilling from the Welsh Assembly Government.

This meeting although separate from the planning application decision to be made this Thursday, has still been seen as a boost to the campaign of the Welsh Assembly Government calling for a moratorium.

However, the Vale Green Party are keen to encourage as many people get along as possible to the peaceful protest taking place on Thursday at Barry Civic Offices. This will be before the Planning Committee meet to decide on the planning application made by Coastal Oil and Gas to test drill for shale gas at Llandow Industrial Estate.

Peaceful protest against Shale Gas Drilling in the Vale

On Thursday 20th October, Vale Green Party members will be gathered outside the Civic Offices in Barry before the planning committee meet to discuss the outcome of the planning application to test drill for Shale Gas in Llandowhttp://vogonline.planning-register.co.uk/PlaRecord.aspx?AppNo=2011/00812/FUL

It’s still not too late to show the planners how much we object and how much we all say no. The more people we can get along, the better as there will be media attending to report the story.

After the protest, please join us in the planning meeting to listen to what the planning committee have to say.

This is a public meeting but we are not allowed to speak, so if you do come, please respect the protocol and remain quiet.
